My role: Lead Product Designer
Team: Digital Product Management
Company: KnoPro (NAF)
Product type: Website - Ed-tech product
Skills used: UI/UX design - Product design - Communication design - User testing
Challenges: Redesign key flows for students of a broad age range. Fix key pain points, ensure sponsor imagery stays visible, achieve ADA/WCAG certification and consider technical workload for the engineers. Other challenges included eliminating large portions of copy and reducing churn.
Home clean up
I refined the homepages visual system while improving overall accessibility and readability. Typography was recalibrated by increasing the minimum font size from 10px to 12px, while contrast and color usage were reviewed across key components to address areas that felt visually aggressive or lacked sufficient hierarchy. The result was a more intentional, polished interface that strengthened the product’s visual credibility and created a more compelling surface for prospective sponsors.
Rethinking challenges
I restructured the challenge experience around faster comprehension and clearer progression. Redundant copy was significantly reduced to prioritize the information students needed to act, while prize information was given greater visual prominence for immediate discoverability. A persistent sidebar navigation was introduced to provide continuous orientation as students moved through each challenge, allowing them to see their current step and overall progress at a glance while reducing unnecessary scrolling. The result was a more focused experience that made each challenge easier to understand, navigate, and complete.
Skill builder discoverability
I redesigned Skill builder discoverability to improve information density without increasing cognitive load. The Skill builder card was restructured to surface key information within a more compact form factor, allowing students to scan and compare more options at once. The updated card also created a stronger visual surface for sponsorship placement, giving partners greater visibility without competing with the core experience. Combined with a simplified information hierarchy, the redesign made Skill Builders easier to discover while creating more efficient use of the available screen real estate.
The critical final step
I redesigned the critically important skill builder submission step to address drop off identified in the completion funnel. User testing helped validate a more streamlined submission flow, with reduced scrolling and a clearer content hierarchy minimizing the friction and fatigue associated with completing the form. The video player was also increased in scale, giving students a more prominent space to fully consume the content before submitting. Together, these changes created a more focused final step designed to carry students through completion with less friction.
The clear path forward
Working on KnoPro was an opportunity to make a meaningful impact through thoughtful, focused product design. Rather than reinventing the platform, I identified areas where small, intentional changes could remove friction and make the experience significantly easier for students to navigate, understand, and complete.
I felt like this work was especially rewarding because of its purpose. Every design decision ultimately supported students as they explored new skills, discovered career pathways, and worked toward their educational goals. KnoPro became a stronger platform for both the students using it and the organization working to expand its impact.
